About the Item

Beautiful and decorative French glass hanging lamp executed in the Empire style, circa 1850 The lamp features an elegant frosted glass bowl engraved with delicate star motifs and a classic meander – à la grecque border around the rim. The lamp is suspended by three gilt bronze chains and richly decorated with crystal swags and faceted prisms that create a light and elegant appearance. The glass bowl is supported by a gilt bronze ring decorated with small floral rosettes from which the suspension originates. At the top, the suspension is finished with a clear glass canopy also adorned with prism swags, bringing the chains together and completing the refined design of the lamp. A chain decorated with glass beads for suspending the light bulb is included, complementing the lamp’s crystal ornamentation. The lower part of the bowl is finished with a finely cast gilt bronze finial in the form of an acorn — a classical decorative element typical of the Empire period. France, circa 1850
