About the Item

Angelo Lelii was an influential Italian lighting designer and entrepreneur best known as the founder of Arredoluce, a company that became one of the most innovative lighting manufacturers in postwar Italy. Born in 1915, Lelii established Arredoluce in Monza in 1947, during a period when Italian design was rapidly gaining international recognition. His work is closely associated with the spirit of mid-century modernism, combining technical experimentation with elegant, refined forms. Lelii had a remarkable ability to merge engineering precision with artistic sensitivity. He frequently collaborated with leading architects and designers, producing lighting solutions that were both functional and sculptural. Among his most celebrated creations is the “Triennale” floor lamp, which demonstrated his interest in adjustable arms and directional light sources. A pair of wall sconces designed by Lelii typically reflects his mastery of materials such as brass, aluminum, and opaline glass. These sconces often feature clean lines, balanced proportions, and carefully engineered joints that allow for subtle adjustments. Rather than serving as mere decorative elements, Lelii’s wall sconces provide controlled, atmospheric illumination, embodying his belief that lighting should enhance architecture while maintaining its own distinct visual identity.
