About the Item

Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985) was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century lighting design and the founder of Arteluce, established in Milan in 1939. Over the course of his career, he designed more than 700 lighting fixtures, ranging from minimalist ceiling lamps to highly engineered, adjustable systems. Sarfatti’s work is distinguished by its technical innovation and elegant simplicity, often incorporating new materials and technologies such as halogen bulbs, articulated arms, and modular components. His designs reflect a deep understanding of both function and form, balancing sculptural presence with practical illumination. Many of his pieces were showcased in major exhibitions like the Milan Triennale, helping to define the language of modern Italian design. Today, Sarfatti’s work remains highly collectible and continues to influence contemporary lighting designers worldwide.
