About the Item

This rare pair of French Art Deco wall sconces was produced by Mouynet in Paris, France, during the 1920s. Each sconce combines a thick frosted molded glass shade by Schneider with an elegant wrought-iron fixture, creating a refined balance of sculptural glass and architectural metalwork. The molded glass shades feature a stylized geometric Art Deco pattern, characteristic of the period’s emphasis on rhythm, symmetry, and decorative abstraction. Schneider supplied Mouynet with some of its highest-quality pressed-glass shades, and these collaborations are particularly appreciated today for their craftsmanship and visual sophistication. One shade is signed “Mouynet,” confirming the origin of the pair. Dimensions: 7.1 in. high × 13.6 in. wide × 3.9 in. deep (18 × 34.5 × 10 cm). Henry Mouynet was an important Parisian manufacturer of metal lighting, based at 11 rue Étienne Marcel Prolongée. During the interwar period, his company ranked among the significant French lighting manufacturers alongside Hettier & Vincent, Petitot, Schneider, and Cherpion. Both Schneider and Degué produced molded-pressed glass shades for Mouynet, sometimes bearing the H. Mouynet or J. Mouynet signature. Although much of Mouynet’s production reflected a refined neoclassical taste, the company also created distinctive Art Deco chandeliers and wall lights. In 1926, Mouynet commissioned a substantial new building for the business, reflecting the scale and importance of the firm before the economic crisis of the 1930s.
