About the Item

When Tiger Used to Smoke: Collection implies the idea of long-term sustainability by working with masters of each field who deserve much more recognition and incorporating modern furniture design with our traditional culture to make it more approachable. WKND Lab specializes in various design disciplines, including material research, object design, furniture design, and art installation. With a focus on material-driven narratives, WKND Lab communicates its philosophy about the dynamic interplay between design, humanity, and the natural environment. Tying Wishes is part of WKND Lab’s Maedeup series, inspired by the Korean tradition of tying knots as a gesture of good fortune. This project reinterprets traditional Korean knot making into large-scale, functional furniture and decorative objects. Featuring a symmetrical design with no front or back, each piece reflects the structural and symbolic qualities of traditional knots. The works is a collaboration with a sewist with over 30 years of experience, using sustainable, animal free materials. Notably, the lighting pieces were developed in partnership with a master LED technician. Together, they engineered a way to weave LEDs into the knotted forms without generating excess heat, ensuring both visual refinement and functional safety. Later hand-tied and assembled by the artist. Through Tying Wishes, WKND Lab presents a new direction in Korean design—one that integrates heritage techniques into modern living while emphasizing sustainability and cultural continuity. From the Tying wishes lighting Series Color: Ivory, yellow Material: Cotton, LED, EPP size: size: 500 x 1500 x 220 (mm) Production time is 5 weeks.
