About the Item

A rare and beautiful pair of French gilt bronze wall lights, 19th century, executed in the Louis XVI style with five scrolling candle arms extending from a finely chased backplate. Each backplate is centered by a ribbon-tied quiver of arrows below a stylized urn or basket finial, flanked by scrolling acanthus and beaded husk swags, all rendered in crisp, well-defined gilt bronze casting typical of the finest Louis XVI revival production. The five arms sweep outward and downward in confident, symmetrical curves, each terminating in a chased drip pan and detachable candle nozzle, the whole sconce previously drilled for electrification, allowing for either candlelit or electric use as desired. The quality of the chasing throughout, from the crisp acanthus scrolls to the finely detailed central motif, reflects the continued 19th-century French appreciation for the refined neoclassical vocabulary first established under Louis XVI, offering a striking and versatile pair for either a period or eclectic interior.
