About the Item

Circa 1970. We offer this Exceptional pair of Brutalist wall sconces designed by Felipe Delfinger, entirely handcrafted in Cuernavaca, Morelos, México. Each piece features a central metal structure—finished in a warm copper tone—supporting a rhythmic arrangement of vertically mounted hand-formed glass elements. The glass panels, with their subtly irregular edges, reveal their artisanal process and lend a unique tactile and visual texture. The chromatic palette unfolds in warm tones—amber, honey, orange, and yellow—which become expressive when illuminated. As light passes through the glass, it enhances depth and radiance, casting a rich, atmospheric glow that transforms the surrounding space. Formally, the pieces evoke a Brutalist sensibility—not through heaviness, but through material honesty and modular repetition—achieving a refined balance between sculptural presence and functional design. Highly representative of mid-20th century Mexican design, these sconces embody the intersection of material experimentation and traditional craftsmanship. About Felipe Delfinger In 1860, the German Delfinger family arrived in Mexico City, where they founded the Feders Factory. Felipe Delfinger took charge of the workshop and focused on developing advanced glassblowing techniques, working with unconventional recipes and formulas that went beyond traditional craftsmanship. Felipe’s work incorporated a wide range of materials, including brass, tiles, and various metals, all combined with masterful glass techniques such as blown, hand-pressed, and kiln-formed glass. This innovative approach allowed the Delfinger family to merge the magic of glass with distinctive materials and forms, creating a recognizable style that set new trends and established a design language with enduring character. To this day, the works of the Delfinger family continue to be admired and remain influential, valued for their craftsmanship, originality, and timeless appeal.
