About the Item

Pair of Continental Louis XVI–style wall sconces, circa 1880, crafted in gilt brass with shaped wood backplates. Each sconce features five scrolling arms with candle-style sockets, anchored by a richly ornamented backplate with classical foliate garlands and neoclassical symmetry. The design reflects late 19th-century European decorative lighting, where Louis XVI motifs were reinterpreted through more elaborate and sculptural brasswork. The pierced and scrolling arms create movement and dimension, while the warm-toned backplates provide contrast against the gilt elements. Pair of Continental Louis XVI–style wall sconces, circa 1880, crafted in gilt brass with shaped wood backplates.
