About the Item

A stunning and most impressive pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu sconces. Each large scale five arm sconce is centered by charming tassels at the base below protruding sticks and a striking seashell reserve in a superb satin and burnished finish. At the center are five arms adorned with magnificent very unique oak leaves and acorns that branch out from elegant scrolled elements and beautifully textured backplates. Above is a spectacular helmet with a lion design and sphinx leading up to a most decorative and wonderfully executed draping fabric tied in a bow at the top. All original gilt throughout.
