About the Item

This pair of Model 1537 wall sconces by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, Italy, circa 1940s, reflects the refined elegance and material clarity of early Italian modern lighting. Chiesa, a key figure in the development of Fontana Arte, was known for his precise use of glass and metal, creating compositions that balance structure and light. Each sconce features a conical opaline glass shade framed in brass and mounted on custom backplates. The glass shades soften and diffuse the light, creating a warm, atmospheric glow while maintaining a strong, architectural presence. The tapered brass bodies retain a naturally aged patina, adding depth and subtle contrast to the composition. The design reflects a focus on craftsmanship and well-defined geometry, resulting in a composition that feels both structured and visually light. Timeless and versatile, these sconces are well suited for both residential and hospitality interiors. Rewired for U.S. standards, these sconces accommodate an E12 socket type. We recommend using max. 40W bulbs or LED equivalent. Priced and sold as a pair only.
