About the Item

Striking Mexican table lamp crafted in mercury glass, evoking the modernist language that defined mid-20th-century interiors in Mexico. Its organic silhouette and generous volume recall the types of pieces often integrated into the spaces of designers such as Clara Porset and architect Luis Barragán, where purity of form and material presence were central elements. The mercury finish creates a subtle mirrored effect that reflects its surroundings and amplifies light, adding depth and character to any space. The lamp retains its original structure. It shows a minor chip at the upper neck (see image 6), consistent with its age and without affecting its functionality or overall aesthetic presence. Please note that the black lampshade shown in the images is not included, in order to facilitate safer and more efficient shipping. A sculptural piece with strong presence—ideal for contemporary, modernist, or interiors that engage with 20th-century Mexican design.

In Guadalajara he started his workshop in front of the garden of Analco, and later moved it to the street of Catalán, current Avenida Revolución. One of Odilón's hobbies was to create extraordinary and fantastic pieces. However, for years it rarely transpired to the public some of his works, because they used to model them in private and then place them on the shelves of a high room that he kept closed, almost in secret, where he used to go, perhaps, to admire himself the beauty of his creation. In the year of 1954, the Government of the State of Jalisco, granted Don Odilón Ávalos, the highest award that pays tribute and is dedicated to artists: "The Jalisco Prize." Even when this encouragement of his adoption status, he was granted time after the recognitions he received at the New York and Seville fairs.
