About the Item

This exceptional French Art Deco table lamp was created in France during the 1920s through the collaboration of two distinguished makers: Charles Schneider of Épinay-sur-Seine, near Paris, and Henri Fournet of Lyon. The large thistle-shaped shade was produced by Charles Schneider in blown, molded double-layer glass. Colored powders were applied between the two layers, creating a richly mottled surface with remarkable depth, texture, and luminosity. When illuminated, the glass reveals subtle tonal variations and a warm atmospheric glow characteristic of Schneider’s finest Art Deco lighting. The shade rests on its original hand-forged wrought iron base by Henri Fournet, whose Lyon workshop operated under the name Le Fer Forgé. The elegant ironwork combines strength, refined curves, and botanical inspiration, perfectly complementing the sculptural form of the glass. The lamp also retains its genuine period Zeppelin Bakelite switch, an especially desirable original detail. The wrought iron base is signed “Le Fer Forgé HF,” while the glass shade bears the “Schneider” signature, confirming the authenticity of both components. Charles Schneider trained at Daum Nancy before founding his own glassworks with his brother Ernest in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913. During the 1920s, Schneider became one of France’s leading Art Deco glassmakers, celebrated for innovative layered glass, bold colors, and distinctive works signed Schneider, Le Verre Français, and Charder. His lighting and decorative glass achieved considerable success in Europe and the United States. Rare, sculptural, and entirely original, this lamp is an important example of French Art Deco glass and wrought iron craftsmanship. It is delivered fully rewired for use in the United States, European Union, Australia, and other countries. LED bulbs may be used.
