About the Item

Rare mid-century “Cobra” table lamp by Cosack, manufactured in Germany during the 1950s. The lamp features a distinctive sculptural design with a broad, organically shaped white painted metal shade mounted on a long, flexible articulated neck. The curved stem allows the shade to be adjusted into different positions, giving the lamp both a functional and highly expressive character. The white painted metal is complemented by warm brass details, including the central stem and base. The combination of the sweeping shade, flexible neck and elongated proportions gives the lamp its characteristic cobra-like appearance and makes it an especially striking example of 1950s lighting design. The lamp retains its vintage character, with visible signs of age and use to the original painted surface, including areas of wear and paint loss. These traces of age add to the authentic mid-century appearance of the piece. A sculptural and highly versatile desk, reading or bedside lamp, with an unmistakable 1950s expression.
