Pair of polychrome Delft table lamps from Boch Belgium trumpet vases, hand-painted in cobalt blue, iron red, leaf green, and saffron yellow on tin-glazed white. The vases are stamped "Brugge Boch Belgium — Handworked" on the underside, identifying a hand-decorated Boch line. Both lamps are topped with new dupion-silk shades in saffron, finished with with Houlès Paris double-cord trim. Newly wired for U.S. use. International plug customization available at no charge. Height includes lampshade. The trumpet form sits within a long Dutch tradition of Delft garnitures, where flared beaker vases were paired with covered jars on mantles from the late seventeenth century forward. Belgian factories adopted the same shape and decorative vocabulary in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, producing Delft-style wares for export in both blue-and-white and full polychrome palettes. These bases belong to the latter category. The decoration runs vertically in panels: cobalt-blue framework set against a brick-red ground, with stylized flowers, scrolling foliage, and a central flower-vase reserve worked in green, saffron, and red. Lozenge and zig-zag borders ring the flared rim and foot, and the painting is consistent across the pair. The mark on the underside is a printed cartouche reading "BRUGGE BOCH BELGIUM — Handworked." Dating to circa the mid-twentieth century, the lamps continue the Delft polychrome tradition that the La Louvière factory carried well into the postwar decades. The shades are new, made to order in dupion silk, a hand-loomed silk woven with irregular slubs that give the cloth its distinctive texture. Dupion does not lie perfectly flat the way smoother silks do; the slubs and gentle surface variation are intrinsic to the fabric and part of its character. The double-cord trim picks up the saffron of the ground and the red of the polychrome decoration; brass fittings and wrapped fabric cord were selected to match. About Boch Frères Keramis Boch Frères Keramis was established in 1841 in La Louvière, Belgium, by members of the Boch family, faïence makers long active across Lorraine and Saarland. By the late nineteenth century, Boch had become one of Belgium's leading ceramic producers, with a repertoire ranging from Art Nouveau and Art Deco artistic wares — notably under Charles Catteau in the 1920s — to traditional Delft-style polychrome export lines that the factory continued well into the postwar decades. The original site is preserved today as the Keramis Centre for Ceramics.
