During his time at Olivetti, Sottsass designed iconic products like the Valentine typewriter, which blended practicality with bold aesthetics and became a symbol of 1960s design. In 1981, he founded the Memphis Group, a collective that revolutionized design with playful forms, bright colors, and unconventional materials. The group rejected minimalist norms and embraced a more expressive, almost radical visual language. Beyond furniture and objects, Sottsass was deeply interested in philosophy, spirituality, and the emotional resonance of design. His legacy continues to influence contemporary designers, as his work demonstrated that design could be both functional and deeply personal, engaging users on a cultural and emotional level.
