About the Item

Dresden porcelain square baluster vases feature 18th century design. The Vignettes are based on Angelica Kauffman Paintings. Ms. Kauffman was a Swiss neoclassical painter and incidentally female prodigy who died in 1805. The panels alternate between figures of flowers painted over a miraculously beautiful robin’s egg blue glaze. Finely drawn gold paint decorations frame both the vignettes and flowers. These wonderful vases make beautiful lamps and are set on pierced gold painted metal bases. The vases were converted to lamps some time before 1930 as the cords are wrapped in silk. Provenance: These Lamps were purchased from the Perry Estate, and previously owned by actress and director Antoinette Perry. Antoinette Perry was the founder of the American Theatre Wing. The American Theatre wing created a series of awards to be given in her honour. Since 1947, the Antoinette Perry Awards have been given annually for distinguished achievement in theatre, and are one of the theatre world's most coveted honours. They are universally known by their nickname, the Tony Awards.
