About the Item

Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce 1966 Height 60 cm. Width 40 cm. The lamp features a modern and sculptural design. Its main feature is a spherical, matte white light diffuser that emits a warm, diffused light. This globe is traversed by a curved, dark brown tubular element with a smooth, matte finish, which serves both as a structural and decorative element, creating a sort of ring that envelops the sphere. The base of the lamp is made of a tubular cable, coiled around itself to form a flattened spiral. This cable is not only the lamp's physical support, but also a distinctive design element due to its vibrant color and unusual shape. From the center of the orange spiral, a thin, clear electrical cable emerges, leading to a black, cylindrical switch located on the cable itself. The lamp rests on a dark reflective surface, likely a tabletop or piece of furniture, which partially reflects the light emitted by the sphere and the shape of the dark orange cable, adding depth to the image. The background is neutral, with a light-colored wall behind the top of the lamp and a darker area to the right, highlighting the lamp as a focal point. The ambient light is soft, focusing primarily on the lamp's own illumination. The opal glass diffuser emits a warm, soft light, creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for living areas, bedrooms, or studies. Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985) was a prominent Italian lighting designer. He is known for his innovative and sophisticated creations, often characterized by functional elegance and the use of modern materials. He founded the lighting company Arteluce, which produced many of his most iconic designs. In short, the "Mappamondo" lamp is not just a functional light source, but a true decorative object capable of adding personality, style, and a touch of design history to the environments in which it is placed.
