About the Item

Large ceramic lamp base features a columnar shaft rising from a wide, flared disc base, both surfaces covered in rough, heavily textured striations that give the piece a raw, sculptural quality. Greek key relief bands appear at the base perimeter and at the neck junction — a rectilinear meander pattern rendered in the same unglazed ceramic as the rest of the body. The earthy terracotta-brown tone is consistent throughout, with no applied glaze, lending the piece a matte, handcrafted character. The columnar form and Greek key ornament reflect a broader Mid-Century interest in reviving classical motifs through modern craft — a tendency seen across ceramics, textiles, and furniture of the 1960s and 1970s. The pairing of rough texture with refined decorative banding is characteristic of studio and production ceramics from this period that drew on ancient Mediterranean sources. Base height measures 18 inches. The lamp comes fitted with a newer white linen drum shade measuring 18.5 inches x 18.5 inches x 11.5 inches. The lamp shows wear consistent with age and use.
