About the Item

The Orion Swirl Table Lamp is a design collaboration between Bethan Gray and Giovanni Corrado first presented at Galleria Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week 2022. The collaboration united Gray's distinctive decorative language with Baroncelli's expertise in sculptural lighting and Venetian glassmaking, resulting in a series of collectible lighting pieces that celebrate craftsmanship, colour and material innovation. At the centre of the composition is a hand-blown Murano glass sphere whose flowing ribbons of cobalt blue, white and crystal glass evoke the painterly brushstrokes of Bethan Gray's work while recalling the weathered striped mooring poles that have become an enduring symbol of Venice. Suspended within a refined satin brass structure, the illuminated glass appears to float effortlessly, creating a subtle dialogue between mass and lightness, precision and fluidity. As illumination passes through the layered glass, the swirling colours become animated, producing changing reflections and optical depth that transform the lamp throughout the day and evening. Every hand-blown sphere possesses its own subtle variations in colour distribution, movement and internal character, ensuring that each lamp is a unique expression of traditional Murano craftsmanship. The Orion Swirl Table Lamp balances contemporary design with centuries-old Venetian glassmaking techniques, functioning equally as an atmospheric light source and a sculptural collectible object. It embodies the shared commitment of Bethan Gray and Giovanni Corrado to creating timeless pieces where narrative, craftsmanship and material excellence are inseparable. Each Orion Swirl Table Lamp is handcrafted in Italy using traditional Murano glassmaking techniques. The central sphere is individually hand-blown by master Venetian glassmakers, combining layers of crystal-clear and coloured glass that are manipulated while molten to create the distinctive swirling pattern unique to each piece. Because every sphere is made by hand, slight variations in the movement of colour, transparency and internal detail are inherent characteristics of the making process and contribute to the individuality of every lamp. The illuminated glass element is supported within a precision-engineered satin brass structure, whose restrained geometry provides a refined architectural counterpoint to the organic movement of the blown glass. The lamp incorporates an integrated warm-white LED light source, carefully positioned to illuminate the glass evenly while enhancing its depth, colour and optical brilliance without exposing the light source itself. Every component is individually assembled, finished and tested by hand in Italy. The combination of artisanal Murano glassmaking, precision metalworking and contemporary lighting technology results in a collectible design object of exceptional quality, equally suited to private collections, luxury residential interiors and architecturally significant hospitality projects.
