About the Item

A highly decorative French Art Nouveau figural table lamp attributed to sculptor Raphaël Charles Peyre, dating to the late 19th century. The sculptural composition is executed in patinated bronze and features an elegant figural form associated with the romantic and allegorical vocabulary of the French Art Nouveau period. The richly aged bronze surface gives the lamp considerable depth and character, highlighting the modelling and sculptural detailing. Above the bronze figure is a decorative domed jewelled glass shade, introducing colour and luminosity to the composition and contrasting beautifully with the dark patinated metalwork. Standing approximately 42 cm high, the lamp has a substantial yet compact scale suitable for a side table, console, desk or cabinet display. It functions equally as an illuminated sculpture and a decorative work of late 19th-century French design. The lamp retains a B22 bayonet-fit bulb holder and has been professionally rewired.
