About the Item

A signed mid-century French studio stoneware table lamp by Ginette and Edouard Solorzano (Saint-Pée), circa 1970. Featuring a raw, pyriform pyritized clay body and its original rustic rope shade, it perfectly captures the 1970s Brutalist craft movement. This exceptional studio pottery table lamp is a standout example of the French mid-century regional stoneware (grès) revival, crafted circa 1970. Handmade and signed under the base by the workshop of Ginette and Edouard Solorzano in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, the piece features an organic, pear-shaped silhouette. The rustic stoneware body is defined by its raw, earthy texture, showcasing a beautiful dual-tone finish: a coarse, sandy-beige upper section transitioning seamlessly into a dark, speckled ocher and pyritized brown base. In terms of style and material, this piece aligns perfectly with the raw, textural aesthetic of the famous La Borne movement (evoking the organic spirit of artists like Elisabeth Joulia or Vassil Ivanoff) and fits effortlessly into the international Brutalist Craft and Wabi-Sabi design category. The lamp comes complete with its original vintage rope-wrapped shade, which beautifully complements the earthy ceramic and diffuses a warm, highly textured architectural light.
