Underlay I - Sculpted table lamp by Paul Matter Underlay I Polished cast brass with Murano glass Dimensions: H 7", D 14" . Started with the idea of drafting a pattern on paper for a garment with free flowing 3-D folds and arresting these fabric folds in metal, Kallol Datta, created a series of light objects that fuse sculptural form with hand worn materials. All the lights are completely handcrafted in beaten and casted metal bringing Industrial uniqueness to each object. The appearance of surfaces and textures on objects and materials are manually achieved with age old technique such as patina and burning. Overlay and underlay is a collection of lights born from a collaboration with clothes maker, Kallol Datta. The collaboration explores different approaches to light design, that blend the traditional and the experimental, form and function, detail and benign. The collection is composed of a Ceiling pendant, Floor Lamp and limited edition light sculptures. Paul Matter Paul Matter is a contemporary light design studio that explores light design by blending the traditional with the experimental, form with function, and detail with the ordinary. The longevity of the designs is ensured by combining timeless visual language with materials that refine with age. The studio works closely with master craftsmen, developing handcrafted products, finished and assembled with great attention to detail, one piece at a time. Drawing from a rich palette, the materials used include aged brass, copper, stone, leather and blown glass. All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the USA it will be wired for the USA for instance.
