About the Item

Impressive console table with mirror dating from the late 19th century, an expression of the great decorative tradition of the turn of the century. The structure, entirely carved and gilded, features a very rich ornamental repertoire in the rocaille style, with volutes, foliage and floral motifs chasing each other with extraordinary harmony. The oversized mirror is framed by an elaborate and dramatic selvage, designed to amplify light and give depth to rooms, while the console table below rests on finely carved, wavy legs, culminating in an elegant marble top. An object designed for reception halls and prestigious residences, this furniture embodies the refined taste of the late 19th century, when the art of carving and gilding reached levels of absolute excellence.
