About the Item

‘Virgule’ dressing table mirror in silvered bronze. The circular mirror stands on a silvered bronze foot shaped like a comma, hence the name "Virgule", meaning comma in French. It is stamped ‘Ruhlmann’ and numbered as 36298. The mirror is found under Reference number 3765NR in the Ruhlmann Archives at the Musée des Années 30, Boulogne Billancourt. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
