About the Item

The so-called Bilbao mirrors were made circa 1800 in Portugal and Spain and named after the city where many were crafted. On our shores they’re often mistakenly said to be American, for the simple reason that some were found in old New England houses. Nevertheless, these mirrors were made on the Iberian peninsula, and dispatched to the Republic on clipper ships. Only then did they take their places on the walls of the Early American home. Ours is veneered in walnut, gilded, and retains its original mirror plate.
