About the Item

Large Wall Mirror with cherubs with musical instruments (Model 1776) White with sculptural flower decoration 100 x 60 cm Design by Franz Conrad Linck, around 1768 Sculptor for the royal family and Porcelain-Manufactory Frankental in the Pfalz "Porcelain is frozen music." — Arthur Schopenhauer With the large wall mirror from the Porcelain Manufactory Nymphenburg this citation from the German philosopher Schopenhauer seems to be confirmed. Created around 1770 in the style of the late Rococo period in the Frankenthaler Manufactory this mirror was the eyecatcher of the apartment of the Electress Elisabeth Auguste of the Pfalz in the Palace Oggersheim. Appropriate for the elegant ambience, the theme "music" is portrayed by several cherubs. The childlike figures adorn the frame of reed and the playfully formed rocaille crown of the frame. Drums and trumpets announce to the world, the fame and artistic sensibility of every owner of this porcelain masterpiece. The purchase is an honor much like the depiction of the cherub at the top of the frame with thecrown of bay leaves. The positioning of the 3 dimentional cherubs each appearing as an individual element in from of the mirror is a perfect example for the creativity of the 18th century; the positioning makes the piece visible from both sides. As in the case of the royal mirror in the Royal Residence Museum in Munich, the form above the mirror offers the elegant opportunity for a personal monogram or family crest to be added. In the Nymphenburg Manufactory, where the tradition has been kept alive of complete handcraft, color, size and type is developed to meet the individual requests of the individual contracting the production of this exquisite piece.
