Antique 19thC Georgian Solid Silver Mounted Coconut Cup c.1820

Antique 19thC Georgian Solid Silver Mounted Coconut Cup c.1820

Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent

A fine and characterful Georgian English coconut cup, mounted in silver and dating to the late 18th to early 19th century. The bowl is formed from a natural coconut shell, richly carved with geometric and foliate motifs, including starburst and lozenge patterns that create a striking textured surface. The cup is elegantly mounted with a silver rim and raised on a circular silver foot, giving it both stability and refinement. A twisted silver swing handle is attached at either side, enhancing both its practicality and decorative appeal. The contrast between the dark, intricately carved coconut shell and the bright silver mounts is particularly pleasing and typical of these highly collectable period pieces. Coconut cups such as this were prized curiosities in the Georgian period, often associated with exotic imports and craftsmanship, and were used both functionally and as display objects in well-appointed homes. A highly decorative and increasingly sought-after example of Georgian tableware, combining natural material with skilled silver mounting, ideal for collectors of early English silver...
