About the Item

Hand quilted four-panel folding screen constructed around a concealed structural frame and fully wrapped in wild silk textile. The silk surface exhibits natural irregularities and tonal variation characteristic of handwoven wild silk. Each panel is divided into four equal horizontal rectangular sections, creating a total of sixteen uniform fields. The internal framework defines a precise horizontal and vertical grid, giving the piece a measured, architectural proportion. The upper row of each panel features a vertically pleated silk treatment. Evenly spaced vertical folds extend from the top edge to the first horizontal division, introducing controlled depth and surface articulation. The remaining sections maintain a flat silk surface, emphasizing contrast between textured and smooth planes. Panels are connected with visible brass-toned hinges, allowing the screen to fold and adjust into multiple freestanding configurations.
