About the Item

Designed in the spirit of Mid-Century Italian modernism and influenced by the work of Gio Ponti, this freestanding hallway rack features a vertical slatted wood panel back in a warm golden-brown tone. Four metal hooks with circular disc backplates — appearing to be plexiglass or frosted glass set in metal surrounds — are mounted across the upper section of the panel, reflecting the inventive material combinations characteristic of Post-War Italian design. A shallow upper shelf with low side rails and rounded handle extensions sits above the hooks, while a horizontal dowel bar spans the lower panel section. A base tray with a glass insert completes the functional layout, providing a dedicated space for umbrellas. Post-War Italian design of the 1950s and 1960s was distinguished by a lightness of form and an interest in combining wood with glass, metal, and synthetic materials.
