About the Item

This elegant late-19th century Sarouk Feraghan is a beautifully woven example from one of the most respected weaving . Dating to approximately 1880, it combines the refined drawing of the Feraghan workshops with the durability and artistic character for which early Sarouk Feraghan rugs are highly prized. The rug features a graceful ivory field surrounding a bold navy blue medallion with matching pendants, creating a striking yet balanced composition. The field is filled with an intricate network of scrolling vines, flowering branches, delicate blossoms, and stylized palmettes, while the four ornamental urns flanking the medallion add a classic Persian decorative element associated with the finest Feraghan designs of the late 19th century. A richly drawn navy main border, decorated with geometric floral rosettes and traditional guard borders, frames the composition beautifully and provides strong visual contrast with the soft ivory and blush-pink field. The harmonious palette of deep indigo, ivory, soft rose, muted blue, sage green, camel, and warm brown has mellowed gracefully over nearly a century and a half, producing the rich patina that collectors admire in early carpets. The weave is fine and precise, with excellent drawing and crisp detail throughout. The wool remains soft and lustrous, reflecting the high-quality materials and craftsmanship characteristic of the best Sarouk Feraghan production.
