About the Item

The rebirth of Indian carpet weaving dates back to the late 1800s during the period of British rule. These artefacts, now much sought after, derive their designs and colours from models of the Mughal period and the so-called Indo-Isfahan has woven between the 16th and 17th centuries. The palmette and cloud stripe motif is characteristic of this product, as is the ruby red background, a typically Indian colour. Also noteworthy in our copy is the important celadon green border.
