This Classical Exceptionally Fine Persian Tabriz Hunting Scene rug is a magnificent and unique piece handwoven with the finest kork wool and silk interwoven depicting a vivid and epic hunting scene. A truly stern example of our pictorial collection telling stories and classical emperor tales. The ivory field with horsemen in pursuit of prey amongst scattered flowering flora within an ivory border enclosing pictorial cartouches filled with adventures, an inner guard border with Nastaliq inscription cartouches. Since the 16th century the city of Tabriz has been an important historical centre for the production of outstanding and significant decorative handmade Persian carpets. Historically, Tabriz; primarily due to its geographical location has always attracted a multicultural audience, which over time has resulted in a huge and varied repertoire of styles of medallion and overall repeat patterns, pictorial rugs among them quintessential hunting scenes influenced by Persian and to a greater extend Mughal history, verse and mythology. Please note the weavers from Tabriz are celebrated for their unique know-how and exceptional craftsmanship synonymous of excellence and their agility to innovate within the trends in vigor with its ancient savoir-faire. From the Golden Age of carpet art creativity of the 17th century, Tabriz weavers are adventurous as they continue to innovate styles and patterns with their unique craftsmanship. This exceptionally fine Persian Tabriz rug represents the climax of the pictorial genre and is a stern example of Persian revivalist weaving techniques introducing a challenging hunting scene from the celebrated verses of the epic poet Ferdowsi from its Shahnamah, one of the world's longest epic poems after the Mahabharata. The central colors are soft pastels in tonality and the pattern depiction is incredibly uncrowded which offers the viewer and airy and tale contemplative apparence. The scene is given a high degree of realism, as the animals and hunters are shown in varying orientations giving a remarkable sense of movement and fluidity to this artistic representation.
