About the Item

This antique, circa 1880, Oushak rug has a soft terracotta field with a central ivory and mole-brown lozenge containing rust-red floral motifs around a central stepped lozenge surrounded by angular floral and leafy vine, in a broad ivory border of angular meandering vine issuing a variety of bold polychrome palmettes and plant motifs between shaded light blue stripes containing angular polychrome flowerheads and leaves, outer soft terracotta plain stripe. Oushak rugs, originating from the town of Uşak in western Anatolia, Turkey, have been prized since the 15th century for their soft colors, large-scale floral or geometric motifs, and luxurious wool. Traditionally hand-knotted, these rugs often feature pale, muted tones like ivory, gold, and soft blues, giving them a timeless, elegant presence that complements both classic and modern interiors. Renowned for their plush texture and refined artistry, Oushak rugs remain a favorite among collectors and designers worldwide.
