About the Item

Handwoven in the Mut region of southern Turkey, this mid-century kilim features a bold Navajo-inspired composition of stacked geometric medallions, arrow motifs, and repeating bow-tie figures. The palette is an earthy blend of soft taupe, clay rose, muted gray, warm ivory, and deep chocolate brown, all naturally dyed and woven from hand-spun wool. The repeating tribal symbols and stepped medallion layout echo both Anatolian nomadic weaving and the graphic rhythm of Southwestern textiles—making this a crossover piece that suits modern rustic, desert, boho, Scandinavian, and Japandi interiors. Woven in the 1970s and never used, it retains excellent structure, tight weave, and original fringes. RUG DETAILS Size: 3' x 4'5" (approx. 3'x5') Thickness: Roughly 0.2" Technique: Flatweave / Kilim Material: Hand woven, hand spun wool on a cotton foundation. Vintage Navajo Wool Area Rug, Handwoven, Wide Band Pattern, 1990s

Located in Barrington, IL

This vintage Navajo area rug, handwoven in the late 20th century, is a striking example of Native American textile artistry, showcasing a distinctive wide band pattern in an earthy yet vibrant palette of ivory, rust, purple, and yellow.  Crafted using time-honored flat-weave techniques, the rug features a wool body on a cotton foundation. The geometric design elements are not merely decorative—they often carry deep spiritual and cultural significance, passed down through generations of Navajo artisans. Dyes are traditionally sourced from the natural environment surrounding the tribal lands, resulting in richly nuanced colors achieved through plant-based and mineral pigments. This thoughtful use of natural materials enhances both the beauty and integrity of the piece.
