About the Item

Geometric Turkish Kilim made in a gallery format from the 3rd quarter of the 20th century Measures: 6'2'' x 11'2'' Kilims, primarily refer to a type of flat-woven rug that was produced without knotted pile. Since this is one of the oldest methods of rug production, it is considered to be Primitive compared to Oriental and Traditional knotted rugs. Comprised of simple interlocking strands of wool, they are very durable, decorative and used for many purposes. Some of these uses include, clothing, shelter, storage, floor coverings, textile, throw pieces and pillows Once overlooked as utilitarian, low status items, antique and vintage Kilims are now prized as some of the most powerful and authentic weavings of the Middle East. Kilim is a Turkish word denoting Caucasus made in simple flat-woven or tapestry technique, in which the pattern is produced entirely by horizontal wefts that cover the vertical warps. This technique makes it very difficult to produce continuous vertical linear separations of color in the design, so Kilims often have a stepped effect. While the weaving quality of kilims can be fine, they tend to rely more on large-scale patterns with striking drawing and effects of color. The most well-known Kilims are those of Turkey, which are varied in type and effect, but Caucasian and Persian Kilim rugs are also appreciated nowadays for their color and high technical skill. Given their thinner, supple structure, Kilim rugs are usable not only as decorative floor covering, but also as wall hangings and on furniture or bed coverlets as well.

Vintage Kurdish Kilim Gallery Rug, Handwoven Allover Geometric Pattern, 5’ x 14'

Vintage Kurdish Kilim Gallery Rug, Handwoven Allover Geometric Pattern, 5’ x 14'

Located in Barrington, IL

Woven in Eastern Anatolia in the early years of the 20th century, this vintage Kurdish kilim carries a design vocabulary that bridges two great weaving worlds — its bold geometric patterns and ivory field recall the tribal kilims of the southern Caucasus as much as those of Eastern Turkey, reflecting the cultural crossroads from which it emerged. Diamonds and multi-sided rectangles march across the surface in striking formation, their forms bold enough to register from across a room yet full of fine interior detail upon closer inspection. Its generous width and length make it a natural gallery runner or wide corridor rug, bringing warmth and visual energy to any long passage. Its antique age, unusual proportions, and the crosscultural richness of its design make it a genuinely rare and rewarding acquisition. Dimensions: 5’ x 14’ 5” Date of Manufacture: 1st Quarter of the 1900s Place of Origin: Anatolia, Turkey Material: Wool pile on a wool foundation with vegetable dyes Condition: Wear consistent with age and use The Persian Knot Gallery, SKU: 1137 Antique Kurdish Rugs, Antique Kurdish Kilims, Kurdish Rugs, Vintage Persian Kurdish, Persian Kurdish Kilims, Senneh Kurdish Carpets, Allover Kurdish Rugs, All Wool Rugs, Antique Persian Rugs, Vintage Persian Carpets, Vintage Oriental Rugs, Vintage Handwoven Rugs, Vintage Hand-Knotted Rugs, Geometric Pattern Kilims, Vintage Kurdish Large Kilims, Kurdish Village Rugs, Village Woven Rugs, Rust Color Rugs...
