About the Item

William Morris was the leader of the Arts & Crafts movement in England in the late 19th century. Their mission questioned industrial progress and promoted craftsmanship and expressionism through the skill of our hands using traditional materials. Morris blended oriental designs found in Turkish Oushak carpets, which were popular across Europe at that time, with gothic style, creating a flat treatment and distribution of leaves and flowers into geometric forms. This carpet has a large central pendant medallion on a striated crimson field within an indigo outer border filled with cloud band motifs and vinery. 13' 11" x 13' 4" .
