The A Chair for Ursula is a powerful example of collectible design where furniture becomes a vehicle for cultural commentary. Conceived in response to the widely publicized diplomatic incident in April 2021, when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was left without a seat during an official meeting, the chair serves as a symbolic gesture advocating respect, equality, and hospitality. Rather than functioning solely as seating, the piece transforms a contemporary political moment into a lasting sculptural object that invites reflection on inclusion and human dignity. Entirely handcrafted in Italy, the chair is produced in Tellurico's proprietary S.C.M. (Special Composite Material), a material developed through the studio's ongoing research into sustainable production methods and traditional craftsmanship. Its textured monolithic form blurs the boundaries between architecture and furniture, allowing every handcrafted surface to reveal the physical process of its creation. The restrained silhouette reinforces the conceptual strength of the work, demonstrating how thoughtful design can communicate ideas beyond function. Produced in a limited edition of 12 pieces plus 1 Artist's Proof, each chair is individually signed and numbered, making every example a unique collectible.
