About the Item

A rare and spectacular collection comprising six meticulously restored and newly caned armchairs, identified as the "Campanino" model, crafted by Guido Chiappe in Chiavari, Italy, in the 1950s. Constructed from high-quality beechwood, these armchairs boast a timeless design, with seats handwoven using the ancient Chiavari technique. With precise measurements of 49 cm in width, 50 cm in depth, and a height of 87 cm, they offer a harmonious balance between elegance and practicality. The seat height of 40.5 cm ensures optimal comfort for those seated. Meticulously restored with hand-polished frames and newly rewoven seats, these armchairs are in excellent vintage condition, ready for use. The Campanino chair holds significant historical importance in Chiavari's renowned furniture production. Originally conceived in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi at the specific request of Marquess Stefano Rivarola, this model quickly gained popularity for its contemporary and lightweight structure. The timeless design of the Campanino chair influenced the esteemed designer Gio Ponti, who drew inspiration for two of his renowned masterpieces: the Leggera chair in the early 1950s and the Superleggera chair in 1958.

Very rare set of four vintage Chiavari dining chairs Model P5 internally designed and produced by the renowned manufacturer Fratelli Podestà in the 1970s. The P5 model has the typical characteristics of lightness and robustness of the other chairs produced in Chiavari in the last 200 years, but it can be recognised by a wider seat and a slightly lowered back that make this chair extremely comfortable without compromising its aesthetics which reaches a perfect balance between lightness and stability instead. Made in ash and cane, these chairs are in perfect vintage condition: they have been restored and newly hand-caned by our internal atelier respecting all the ancient processes and techniques handed down by the Chiavari's artisans during the centuries-old manufacturing tradition of this beautiful Italian town.
