About the Item

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare, Ebonished and Maple wood Rush seat armchair designed by Josef Zotti and manufactured by Prag Rudniker Circa 1911 Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price. Where to begin.... if you are looking at this listing then you know just what kind of unicorn find this chair is, Josef Zotti was an apprenticeship in Bolzano and Meran, Student of Josef Hoffmann, later designer for the Prag Rudniker Korbwaren Fabrication REFERENCES Cf: The Studio, Yearbook for 1912 See also: Josef Zotti. Architect und Designer, Hochschule fr Angewandte Kunst in Wien, 1993, pp. 28 & 128, pl. 7.8 Zotti, like Hans Vollmer (Lot 36) and Otto Schmidt (Lot 44) before him, studied under Josef Hoffmann before going on to design for Prag Rudniker. This chair formed part of the exhibition of 1911 at the Kunstgewerbeschule to which Zotti contributed several pieces although he had completed his studies in 1909. The strong, rigidly geometrical form of the chair contrasts somewhat with the traditional decorative 'bobbin' effect and the use of rush, a dying craft championed by Zotti. The design was taken up by Prag Rudniker, appearing in the catalogue of the following year and was discussed in The Studio yearbook for 1912. The piece is in sublime condition, the wear and patina is exactly what you would hope to find having the ebonized finish wearing off in all the right places, I can't emphasize enough just how magnificent this piece is Dimensions Height:- 97cm Width:- 57cm Depth:- 59cm Seat height:- 44cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
