About the Item

Rare armchair known as “Cross easy chair” in solid teak and braided canework, circa 1955-1956. We have two of them to offer. PJ-SI-45-A for Chandigarh. This chair is a fantastic piece, almost iconic. It is raw in its simplicity and "warm" with that beautiful teak, which shows a strongly patinated material. AUTHENTICITY: We sell only authentic Mid-century objects. The owner of the gallery picks in India each piece on his own. We buy all objects unrestored, so all traces and important indicators of authenticity are visible. All wooden parts are original. We don’t replace damaged parts by new once or from some other damaged Jeanneret pieces. The patina is very important and during the restoration we try to preserve as much as possible of it. Old cracks, many layers of scratches, old traces of worn lacquer, distortions of the beams or the oxidation of the wood because of peoples touch are important signs of authenticity. There are fakes and Chandigarh objects never have serious provenence papers, so it's smart to buy from experts. We add a Certificate of Authenticity. ABOUT US: We are located in Switzerland, the origin of Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier. Proud to offer you our selection of authentic Mid Century pieces. The owner studied architecture at the elite university ETH in Zurich. Sonn after the openening of his gallery in Zurich downtown he focused on Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier. Finally he's got one of the biggest experts for Chandigarh objects worldwide. You are welcome in our new showroom of 450m2 in our two glass houses, where we show a selection of raw design master pieces.

Authentic 'Office Chair' from the administrative buildings of Chandigarh (Ref. PJ-SI-28-B). In excellent condition - joints have been restored and cane work replaced. Pierre Jeanneret (22 March 1896 - 4 December 1967) was a Swiss architect who collaborated with his cousin, Le Corbusier, designing furniture for Le Corbusier's vast modernist complex at Chandigarh. Jeanneret remained for over 15 years as the project’s chief architect and the city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision. The pair pioneered a new aesthetic that placed function and order over embellishment—Jeanneret’s work imbuing the strict geometry of modernism with lighter materials like cane and wood. Jeanneret also collaborated with other modern masters, Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminium and wood, and Jean Prouve developing prefabricated housing.
