About the Item

A large deep and wide ecclesiastical oak chair from a Scottish church with open sides and wide welcoming arms. The backrest and arms are upholstered in a rich chestnut coloured supple cow hide with original horse hair padding. The backrest is studded to the front with brass stud detailing along the back and arms accompanied with subtle ecclesiastical elements. The large dished seat is wide and unusually deep as clergy would be adorned in cassocks and gowns and more space would have been required in the seat. The seat is united by shapely balusters and turned legs united by crinoline stretchers. Reassuringly heavy and ready to serve as a desk chair or side chair. Perthshire, Scotland. Circa 1880.
