About the Item

A bold and highly distinctive set of four modular armchairs produced by INSA, Italy, in the 1970s. These sculptural lounge seats perfectly capture the experimental spirit of Italian radical design, combining vibrant color, soft volumes, and exposed chromed steel structure. Each armchair is upholstered in vivid orange leather, generously padded and formed into low, geometric volumes. The design is composed of stacked, cushioned elements—seat base, seat cushion, and backrest—visually and structurally held together by external chromed tubular steel frames. The metal structure wraps around the upholstery, creating a striking contrast between the softness of the leather and the industrial precision of the steel. The chairs feature a modular construction: the backrests and cushions are removable, revealing the original INSA-branded internal lining (marked “INSA – Made in Italy”), confirming authenticity. The low, lounge-like proportions and deep seating offer both comfort and a strong architectural presence. The bright orange leather has developed a light natural patina consistent with age, with minor signs of use that enhance the vintage character. The chrome frames remain in good condition, maintaining their clean, graphic lines.
