About the Item

Rare “Eleh” bench / coffee table designed by Sergio Rodrigues in 1965 and produced by OCA, Brazil. A refined and versatile example of Brazilian modern furniture, the piece reflects Rodrigues’ ability to combine strong architectural construction, noble native woods, and functional clarity. The Eleh is composed of a rectangular jacarandá rosewood volume, with richly figured grain running across the top and sides. The piece is supported by solid wood legs positioned externally at the corners, creating a distinctive structural rhythm. Small chromed metal details punctuate the legs, adding a precise industrial accent to the warmth and depth of the jacarandá wood. Designed as a multifunctional piece, the Eleh can be used either as a bench or as a coffee table. Its low horizontal profile, robust construction, and clean geometric presence make it especially suitable for living rooms, gallery interiors, entrance halls, or sophisticated corporate spaces. The design belongs to Sergio Rodrigues’ important 1960s production, a period in which he explored serial construction, modular solutions, and a distinctly Brazilian approach to modern furniture. The Eleh’s apparent simplicity reveals a carefully resolved structure, based on juxtaposed wooden elements, straight lines, and honest material expression. Exhibitions: This piece was presented in selected exhibitions in Brazil in 2025. This piece is catalogued in the book Sergio Rodrigues, published by Icatu, page 60.
