About the Item

Stacking gymnastics bench of Dutch school origin, constructed from planked oak and teak with a natural leather cushion top. The frame comprises three interlocking sections secured by notched slots on the sides. Using one or more sections of the bench could make the bench shorter or taller. Metal hardware at the corners reinforces the plank construction. A manufacturer's stamp mark is visible on the upper section face. This style of stacking gymnastics bench was standard equipment in Dutch and broader European school physical education programs from the postwar decades onward. Designed for institutional durability and functional flexibility, these benches were built to stack and store efficiently while withstanding sustained heavy use. The mixed oak and teak construction reflects the practical use of available hardwoods common in Dutch manufacturing of the period. The frame shows heavy wear including scratches, scuffs, and carvings consistent with age and use. The leather top has developed significant darkening and surface wear from years of active use.
