About the Item

Out of the frenetic turmoil of Wettstein's design activity, one day emerged the idea of a chair; defying all known logic, the structure of the back, curved forwards. With this idea as basic condition of the design, form was translated into function. During the revision of the project for industrial production, the back also became an arm and the chair was transformed into a small armchair. This "supersleek" creation, seemingly made out of air and a clever idea, is surprisingly comfortable. Seating system with steel rod structure painted with epoxy powders. Seat and seatback in molded sheet metal painted to match the structure. Born in 1958 in Ascona, Switzerland, he lived and worked in Zurich. His main professional activities were in the fields of product design and interior architecture. He designed fashion and furniture showrooms, public spaces, hotels, installations, offices, both in Switzerland and abroad. He designed limited edition collections of furnishings and accessories for several Swiss companies. His projects include furniture, lamps, watches, eyeglasses, rugs, handles, bikes. His collaboration with Baleri Italia began in 1985; he designed several many successful products for the company. Hannes Wettstein died in July 2008. only 50 years old.

Customizable Gebruder T S 43 Cantilever Chair by Mart Stam

Customizable Gebruder T S 43 Cantilever Chair by Mart Stam

By Mart Stam

Located in New York, NY

Range S 43 Simplicity that unfolds its effect everywhere: Mart Stam removed the back legs from furniture that for centuries had been created based on the same principles. Through evolutionary refinement, an object that simply looks good in any place where both understatement and quality are wanted. For his furniture designs, Mart Stam placed a high value on usefulness and austerity with regard to aesthetics as well as material. The straight-lined form, a clear construction and improved sitting comfort resulted from this approach. Stam achieved the greatest possible reduction with the cantilever chair S 43 by combining the tubular steel frame with moulded wood elements for seat and backrest. The pure, restrained form of this cantilever chair makes it an exemplary design in the spirit of modernism...
