About the Item

The Art Deco movement of the early 20th century prioritised bold forms and geometry, while adapting to the changing cultural and economic period, ensuring functionality as well as aesthetics. Designers across Europe favoured strong silhouettes, subtle ornamentation, and a close dialogue between craftsmanship and modern living. This elegantly constructed chair combines comfort with style. From as early as the 1920s, cabinetmakers and architects frequently collaborated to produce exceptional pieces like this. The chairs’ elegant curves, precise angles and structure all testify of this partnership’s success. Thanks to its low back the design appears very grounded. With straight and curving lines, the model has a dynamism rooted in organicity. The piece has an overall flow to it, which is a result of the pointed arms that continue to form the front legs. The light fabric adds to the stylish look, as it highlights the wood’s gorgeous colour and pattern. The contrasting tones create a dialogue between the deep browns of the frame and light sandy tones of the upholstery. As a piece, this armchair captures the lasting appeal of 1920s furniture: comfort shaped by discipline and elegance rooted in form rather than ornament.
