About the Item

A large and very stylish late 19th Century English carved oak Klismos armchair.  With a deeply curved tablet back centred by a carved Anthemion, flanked by Owen Jones inspired decoration. Raised on swept scroll legs, the side tails decorated with a Greek key design. The drop-in seat reupholstered in a luxurious deep red mock-croc leather. With stylistic inspiration ranging from ancient Greece all the way through to the Regency designs of Thomas Hope, incorporating stylised motifs of Owen Jones, 'The Grammar of Ornament' published 1856.  This wonderful Klismos chair is a 19th Century design classic. Circa 1880.
