About the Item

Before Hans J. Wegner and Poul Kjærholm honed their craft at his studio, there was Palle Suenson—the Danish architect, designer, and professor whose industrial vision bridged strict functionalism and Nordic warmth. This chair is not a replica. It is not a reissue. It is a relic of Danish industrial modernism, commissioned directly for the Aarhus Oliefabrik (1938–1942), a building that Suenson designed and furnished in its entirety. · Attribution: Palle Suenson (1904–1987) · Origin: Aarhus Oliefabrik, Denmark – original office furnishings · Material: Solid beech, dark stained, with original suspended leather webbing · Condition: Beautifully preserved, all-original, unrestored vintage. The leather shows honest patina; the wood carries decades of character. No over-polishing. No new parts. Most Danish chairs tell a story of the home. This one tells the story of the factory—boardrooms, blueprints, and the uncompromising rigor of pre-war Scandinavian architecture. The frame is uncompromisingly structured. The dark stain adds gravity. The webbed leather seat (a Suenson signature) offers surprising comfort through pure tension. Together, they form a chair that feels as much like industrial sculpture as seating. We currently hold five (5) matching examples. Buy one as a statement desk chair. Acquire the pair for a collectors' gallery. Take all five and reassemble a piece of Danish architectural history. Literature: Documented in Danske kunsthåndværkeres arkiv, The Danish Museum of Art & Design library.
