About the Item

Exceptional pair of architectural chairs designed by Cosimo De Vita, 2023. Each chair is conceived as a sculptural interpretation of the iconic dome of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, translating one of the most celebrated achievements of Italian architecture into contemporary furniture design. The backs are meticulously modeled to echo the Duomo’s distinctive domed profile, complete with articulated ribs and oculus-like apertures that reference the cathedral’s monumental structure. Executed in a crisp white finish, the sculptural forms emphasize light, shadow, and relief, reinforcing the architectural clarity of the design. The domed backs rise above restrained, rectilinear bases supported by slender legs, creating a deliberate contrast between historic reference and modern geometry. This dialogue between classical architecture and contemporary form is central to De Vita’s practice, in which furniture operates as a conceptual object as much as a functional one. While fully usable as seating, the chairs possess a strong sculptural presence, allowing them to function equally as statement pieces or architectural punctuation within a space.
