About the Item

Mahogany ​'Cannelure' chair with sculpted gondola backrest over a white silk velvet seat raised on saber front legs capped with silver-plated sabots and curved rear legs. Reference number 77AR and 88NR in the Ruhlmann Archives, Musée des Années 30, Boulogne Billancourt. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
